Funky Friday, Metaphorically Meteorological Edition

We had some heavy weather here in Bubba County Wednesday night. No sooner had I fallen asleep, just after midnight, when that line of storms that kicked ass in Alabama meandered up through East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, giving my house a good shaking along the way but fortunately doing no nearby damage except downing some already dead tree limbs and decorating the neighbor's yard with trash can lids from all around the block. It was pretty scary nonetheless. The real destruction took place a few miles west of me, where a tornado touched down and rearranged not just folks' furniture, but their whole houses. And their lives. This small community is mourning the loss of two residents, and who knows what else.

My heart goes out to all who have been dealt a blow by the relentless Spring weather this year. Let's hope we can catch our breath before....hurricane season arrives!

  1. It's autumn here, not spring, but we've had a pretty hefty punch to start the wet season, record downpours, towns cut off, etc. etc., but nobody missing yet, thank goodness.

  2. Brett, nature can surely put us lowly humans in our place when she wants to!

  3. Glad you're OK Intelli. The front came through Baja Georgia last night and left only some much needed rain, but not enough. I spent a good deal of time last night watching videos of the tornadoes. Awesome, fascinating, scary.

  4. Mr. C, we're lucky that our area is so rural, otherwise I'm sure the losses would have been much more devastating.

Maybe your rain came from up here -- I heard the twister went through a co-worker's propety and sucked her pond dry!

  5. I was wondering how your were fairing. Glad you are OK.

Having experienced Hurricane Andrew first hand, and now living in Tornado Alley, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to those whose lives that are affected by severe weather. It is a fearsome thing sometimes.

  6. The good thing, jj, is that I'm finally motivated to get rid of that yard sale pile that's been growing in my hallway -- much of it will be donated to the storm victims this weekend.

Except for that 1998 vintage cordless phone. You wanted that, right?

  7. Glad ur o.k. Intelli! God knows I was too terrified to even go to sleep that night. Just kept waiting for what happened in Alabama....man those poor people. Talk about being thankful for my old house and all the crap that needs to be fixed on/in it. :)

  8. Hi Steph - it was a sleepless night here, too. I've been waiting to hear from a friend in Austell to see if they made it through the storm ok...
