That time of year

Last weekend's cold snap brought the first snow flurries to these here hills, and the freeze must have sent my muse in search of warmer digs because I haven't been able to come up with anything postworthy to note here.

Oh, you noticed.

This week things are warming up, in more ways than one. The weather is much more temperate, at least once the sun comes up. That means that we really don't need the heat on in our offices, thank you. (It has been a stifling 80-degrees in my windowless corner of the building!)

Outside the realm of meteorology, there is a spark of activity on the Match.com front, too. I won't risk jinxing any possible positive outcome by elaborating here, but will simply say that I am very pleased to have made contact with someone whose intellect and humor are compatible with my own. It's been so long since I've ventured into the realm of dating and such, however, that I have no idea what I'm doing. Hopefully that will seem endearing and not off-putting.

I'm not sure why, but most of my (at least temporarily) successful long-term relationships (all 3 of them) have started in the Fall of whatever year they started in. (Interestingly enough, one beau and I met at a Halloween party, where he was a cowboy and I was Cousin It.) Obvious biological drives aside, maybe there is another instinctual influence that prompts some of us to seek out warmth for the coming cold days -- and nights -- ahead.

Or maybe it's the dread of another New Year's Eve spent with the dog.

  1. I think that is poetic, to have a certain time of the year in which romance buds. Perhaps it's the moon phase thingy at this time of the year.

Now that I think on it, for me, my past serious connects have been in the Spring. Interesting.

OK, so now my nosey me wants to know, who, when, where. Well?

But we can all look forward to her return as every post with be filled with sweetness and light and, Lord knows, we can sure use all of that we can get.

  6. Shhhh, everyone...you'll jinx it!

Jaded, there's not much to tell yet (but suffice to say he lives outside Bubba County). Since you've flung your flings in the Spring, I guess we two could've never been a thing....

We haven't yet discussed his views on health care, so this could all be wishful thinking ;-)

Mr. Charleston, it's too early for the b-word. I think we need to move beyond e-mails and phone calls first.

Thank you, Vole -- it would be better if he had a sexy Brit accent, but I'll settle.

APR, does it even get chilly down where you are?

Barnesm, I may ask you to write a reference!

Doug, you'd be surprised the things you know. Dreams do come true ;-)

  8. Jaded, that was awful, but sweet nonetheless.

Dined with the fellow last night, and all is merry.

  10. Fall, is my absolute favorite season and my energy levels and enthusiasm always seem to peek in the Fall. I’m afraid that may make me seem a melancholy type of person but I prefer to think of the world falling asleep versus everything dying for winter. In the deep South, Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year. No jinxing but I’m interested to hear how the Match works out.

  12. Bethany, sometimes I think I could sleep through the entire winter!

Pantsless..."young" is relative. (Oops, I can't say "relative" when talking about dating here in Tennessee.) He's old enough to be your mother.
